Be here now, still

Have you ever experienced achieving one of your big goals in life? Was it all that you expected it to be? 

I talked to a friend the other week who highlighted this yet again for me. She had strived for a big goal everyday for four years until she finally reached where she had dreamed of being. Once there, depression came. Even though reaching the goal was amazing in many ways it didn't solve everything. All areas in her life was not magically transformed by reaching the goal but there was an unconscious expectation of this because it had been her whole focus for so long. 

There is no there there. I know I say this all the time but it's so true. Sure, look ahead and work for the things you want but don't attach your happiness or attachment to it. Be here now, still. Fulfillment only happens in the present moment anyway.

See how far you've come!

What goals did you have for your life five years ago that has now become a reality? What dreams did you have for your life growing up? What are all the things you have today that you wished for 10 years ago? 

Remember when you where studying and wished you could go out for lunch without worrying about the money? Or when you where longing for those meaningful relationships that you now have? Where there a time when getting a permanent job was the ultimate goal? Or did you use to long for a symptom free day down the line? 

Whatever you wished for in the past, some dreams will have become a reality in your reality. Are you noticing? Inevitably there will always be things you lack, if you choose to focus on them. But there are more things to be grateful for and appreciative of, always. So many people in this world wish they would have what you have.

Today, celebrate yourself! The things you strive for will still be there, but, for today, see how far you've come!

What if your obstacle is your to-do?

Looking ahead into a brand New Year to come, most of us set goals in both business and personal life. I try to live by my Core Desire Feelings but still, I realize that concrete goals help me structure my business in a way that feels really good to me. 

Our goals sometimes feel far away or as if we can't reach them because there's too much blocking us. Too many obstacles. But what if the obstacles we perceive is just a to-do and not an obstacle at all. Let me give you some examples.

My goal is to write a book but I don't know how to write/ publish/ edit/ structure it so I can't. Therefore my first to-do is to learn how to write/ publish/ edit/ structure. 

My goal is to find a house by the water but I don't know where to find it/ don't have the money. Therefore my to-do is to ask someone if they know of good locations, good brokers etc/ figure out a way to save/ make the money I need. 

My goal is to heal my body to full functionality and no pain but I don't think I can/ don't know how it works/ don't believe in its ability. Therefore my to-do is to find inspiration, information and build the faith I need to tap/ leave room for the body's self-healing powers. 

Whatever goal your aiming at in the new year - don't focus on the obstacle, realize what you need to do to get there and take small daily action in the right direction. 

And just a reminder, make sure you get to feel today the way that goal would make you feel in the future.

What would this look like if it were easy?

This question is from Tim Ferriss' new book Tribe of Mentors and I think it's brilliant. Why do we always make things so complicated? What if it were easy? 

Next time you hit a road block in your life, ask yourself some clarifying questions;

  • Why am I doing this in the first place? What's my why? 
  • Are all the steps in this process the best ones? Are there any I could eliminate and still get where I want to go? 
  • Is doing this work helping me feel what I really want to feel today? If not, how can I get to feel what I'm aiming to feel right now, still working towards my goal? 
  • Can I get help with this? 
  • How can I make this more fun? 

We're not meant to strive and force. We're meant to flow. How can you live a little more effortlessly today?
